Concerning Sherman Township and Boyceville Fire District
On June 8, 2018 at 10:45 a.m. Chairman Dan Fedderly in an e-mail to Frank Bammert, Town of Menomonie chairman wrote. “What are your thoughts on the town of Sherman requesting complete fire district coverage through the Menomonie rural district again? That would in effect double your revenue from Sherman. Thanks let me know what you think”.
June 8, 2018 at 6:12:49 p.m. Frank wrote “Last time it was discussed Boyceville was not pleased and remember they were at our meeting and the district would be at their doorstep so I don’t know what to think, certainly worth further discussion”.
June 8,2018 at 6:14:06 p.m. Frank wrote to Dan. “Did you have to commit to their new fire hall yet?” On June 8, 2018 at 6:14p.m. Dan wrote “No nothing committed yet and they refuse to listen to alternatives.”
August 16, 2018 at 10:51:37a.m. Dan wrote “The Sherman Town Board at our last regular meeting discussed the possible change in fire district boundaries in the Town of Sherman. More specifically the inclusion of all of the Town of Sherman in the Menomonie rural fire district boundaries. The board unanimously concurred to begin the process to move forward. To that extent what would you suggest on your end? Shall we attend a meeting of the Menomonie Rural to discuss? The Sherman Board also agreed to seek legal counsel to assist us in these efforts. Thank you for your consideration and we look forward to hearing from you.”
August 16, 2018 at 5:25:06 p.m. Frank wrote. “It would be brought up at our annual meeting in Late October, don’t know if we could generate enough people at a special meeting. Will talk to fire chief and Pete next week”. On August 16, 2018 at 5:27p.m. Frank wrote. “ Jack review this, thanks.”
August 17, 2018 at 9:09:10 a.m. Jack Wrote.” I am not opposed to this; however, you should talk before this gets too deep as far as how to proceed. I’m a little more concerned since the contentious meeting we had last time Sherman attempted this. I can’t meet today, I’ll try to catch you at the laundromat the first part of next week. Have a good weekend, Jack”.
Sherman Township meeting August 15, 2018 minutes. Chairman Daniel stated the Menomonie Rural fire is cleaning up their service boundary lines and asked if the Town of Sherman would have any interest in pursuing extending the north line to include the entire town.
The board agreed to start the formal process on adding more territory to Menomonie and adding legal counsel if progress is made.
Keep in mind that it looks like chairman Dan started the process on June 8, 2018 not as the minutes of the meeting stated.
Frank and Jack have thoughts that are quite reserved on this fiasco.
The Town of Sherman, Boyceville Fire District voted on this issue about 2 years ago with the majority voting to build a new fire station. No real reason to listen to alternatives. The board should work in ernest to build what the constituents want.
The affected Sherman residents should check their homeowners insurance policy for possible rate increases if we are moved into Menomonie rural fire district.
The response time is in question as well.
The Menomonie Rural meeting is on October 17, 2018 at the North fire n at 7 p.m.
The Sherman township meeting is on October 18, 2018 at the town hall at 5:30 p.m. Budget proposal meeting is at 5 p.m. with regular meeting to follow so it could be a little late. You can attend both meetings but the town meeting is a must to attend. Check your insurance rate. Talk to your friends and neighbors about this and see you at the meetings. If you can’t attend and need to learn more call me at 715 643 5145.
