MONDOVI — The Elk Mound volleyball team played five different teams at the Mondovi tournament Oct. 19 to tune up for regional play that begins Tuesday night. The Mounders beat Menomonie and Gilmanton 2 sets to 0 and Spring Valley 2-1, then split with Menomonie and lost to Mondovi 2-0.

HAMMOND — A rather dismal season came to an end for the Elk Mound football team when they traveled to  St. Croix Central to face the Panthers in their season finale Oct. 18.

COLFAX — Although Elk Mound senior Ben Holzwarth led from start to finish to win the Dunn-St. Croix cross country championship, the Mounder boys placed fourth in the eight team division, while the girls, running without their number two runner again, came in sixth out of the six full teams. Elk Mound’s volleyball team ended their 2013 conference campaign with a 7-2 record after a three set win at home against the Boyceville Bulldogs Oct. 15, leaving them in a three way tie for second place along with Spring Valley and Mondovi. Their two conference losses came against Colfax and Pepin.

Elk Mound improved their conference record on the volleyball court to 6-2 with a couple of wins last week. They started with a four set win over Plum City Oct. 8 then traveled to Hammond two days later and showed no mercy as they swept St. Croix Central in three games.

The Mounder volleyball team finished 1-3 at the Altoona tournament Oct. 12, losing matches to Eau Claire Memorial, Immanuel Lutheran and Altoona and defeating Durand.

COLFAX — With the Dunn St. Croix Conference meet being held Oct. 17 at Whitetail Golf Course, the Elk Mound cross country teams had a chance to run the course against five other conference teams at the Colfax Invitational Oct. 7.
