Lady Mounders win pair of matches

Elk Mound improved their conference record on the volleyball court to 6-2 with a couple of wins last week. They started with a four set win over Plum City Oct. 8 then traveled to Hammond two days later and showed no mercy as they swept St. Croix Central in three games.

After taking the first set 25-17, the Mounders found themselves knotted up in sets when the Blue Devils took the second one 25-21. The Mounders got the wake up call to win the third 25-14 but barely hung on for the match win with a 25-23 win in the final game.

Morgan Polden and Anna Sessions both had 16 kills to lead Elk Mound in that department while Katie Benson added five. Katie Johnson collected 36 of the Mounders’ 38 assists and Rachel Caron and Polden each finished with two service aces. Polden and Johnson led the defense with eight digs each while Caron added seven and Mattie Pitts five.
