What if, 42 years ago, members of the Elk Mound Area had said “I don’t have time for this.”? Instead they went ahead and formed the Elk Mound Area Lions Club, a service organization which went on to benefit so many in the community.
One of their early accomplishments began with the vision to develop the Village land south of I-94. Do you enjoy the Village Park? The Elk Mound Area Lions built ballfield #1, followed by the pavilion and bathrooms. Later they added Ballfield #2 and #3. They also put together a major fundraiser to put lights on Field #1.
The Elk Mound Area Lions Club took it upon themselves to put up the original welcome signs on each end of the Village so that other organizations could display their signs and join in welcoming people to the Village.
Each year the Elk Mound Area Lions Club provides two educational scholarships to deserving high school seniors.
The Club is sponsor for the local Boy Scout Troop 71 and each year the Club sponsors a Halloween party at the fire hall for trick-or-treaters.
Through the years the Lions have done many things to improve life in the Elk Mound area.
What if they had said “We Don’t Have Time.”?
The Elk Mound Area Lions currently has nine members. Four of these members are charter members, having been with the club since its inception, 42 years ago. Currently, we are in danger of being asked to disband due to lack of membership.
If you feel moved to take the time and make a difference in the community, please contact one of the members listed below or any other member of the club. We would be so happy you did and believe you would be as well!!!
Rod Rhude – 715-879-5443; Steve Dieter – 715-879-5420; Dean Brockmeier – 715-879-5539.
