So far 17 counties in Wisconsin have become 2nd Amendment Sanctuary Counties. A petition is circulating in Dunn County to make Dunn County a 2nd Amendment Sanctuary County. A declaration statement will be turned in along with the signatures.
Basically, the declaration statement with the petition reinforces the concept that the Constitution (the Supreme Law of our nation) guarantees each citizen of Dunn County the right to bear and keep arms. And under the Constitution of the State of Wisconsin, Article 1, Section 25, reads “The people have the right to keep and bear arms for security, defense, hunting, recreation or any other lawful purpose,”
The US Supreme Court in District of Columbia v. Heller, 554 US 570, affirmed an individual’s right to possess firearms, unconnected with service in a militia, for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home.
The US Supreme Court in McDonald v. Chicago, 561 U.S. 742 affirmed that the right of an individual to “keep and bear arms,” as protected under the Second Amendment, is incorporated by the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment against the states.
The Right of the People to Keep and Bear Arms for the defense of Life, Liberty, and Property is regarded as an inalienable Right by the People of Dunn County, Wisconsin, and;
The Dunn County Board of Supervisors wishes to express opposition to any law that would unconstitutionally restrict the rights of the citizens of Dunn County to keep and bear arms.
Any legislation considered by the WI State Legislation that would infringe upon the Right to Keep and Bear Arms and would ban the possession and/or use of any weapon including firearms, magazines, ammunition or body armor now employed by individual citizens of Dunn County for their defense of Life, Liberty and Property or for the purposes of hunting, recreation or other lawful purposes or would require the registration and/or confiscation of said weapons and ammunition within Dunn County, WI; would be a violation of the Second Amendment of the US Constitution and of Article 1, Section 25 of the WI Constitution, therefore:
If passed by the Dunn County Board of Supervisors, the resolution would declare Dunn County, WI to be a Second Amendment Sanctuary County and would affirm the Board’s support of the Sheriff to exercise sound discretion to not enforce an unconstitutional firearms law against any citizen.
