In regard to the Family Photo Album’s 1915 picture of the brush wolf killed with a mop handle, the editorial indicated it was judged to be too large for it to be a coyote. To be perfectly honest, and to eliminate any misunderstanding, a coyote is called by many names: brush wolf, prairie wolf, small wolf but they are all the same animal……Canis Latrans. In some cases a coyote will mate with a dog and the offspring hybrid would be classified as a coydog. The coydog will have the primary characteristics of a coyote with very slight variations. Just wanted to make sure people didn’t think a brush wolf and coyote are two different animals.
