Toppers’ Thompson and Flick take firsts at UW-River Falls indoor track and field meet

RIVER FALLS — For a second straight week, the Glenwood City boys’ and girls’ track and field teams returned to the Robert P. Knowles Center on the UW-River Falls campus to compete in an indoor meet.
This time around it was for the annual UWRF High School Classic which was held Friday, April 4. Twenty-three schools from Wisconsin and Minnesota took part in the event.
While no team scores were reported, the Hilltopper boys had a handful of top eight finishes led by junior Brady Thompson who captured first place in the 200 meter dash in a time of :23.28. Thompson was also a part of the 4×200 meter relay team, along with Justin Rogers, Elliot Springborn and Ilan Anderson that took second in 3:40.61.
Senior Ilan Anderson also had a silver-medal finish when he finished as the runner-up in the 800 meter race with a time of 2:11.89 while junior teammate Clayton Hoffman finished third in the event after posting a time of 2:13.37.
Junior Ben Standaert cleared 11 feet in the pole vault to take fifth. Senior Elliott Springborn copped a pair of seventh-place finishes in the 400 meter run (:56.69) and high jump (5’ 8”) and sophomore Eli Oberle ran a 4:58.47 in the 1,600 meters to place eighth.
The Glenwood City girls were led by junior Kyra Flick who won the shot put for a second consecutive week with a heave of 34’ 1”.
The next best showings for the Topper gals were an 11th-place finish by junior Ava Multhauf in the high jump (4’ 4”) and a 13th place finish by the 4×400 meter relay squad (5:04.75) that consisted of sophomores Kylie Main, Erica Bauman and Emma Cole and junior Kayley Dickmann.
