GLENWOOD CITY — The 2025 edition of the Glenwood City baseball team returns seven starters and ten letter winners from a year ago.
Although the Hilltoppers graduated just two starters – Steven Booth and Peyton Thuene – both played key roles on last year’s team that finished 7-10 overall and 6-9 in the Dunn-St. Croix which placed them sixth in the final 8-team standings.
Booth, a second team all-conference selection, and Thuene both pitched with the former logging 33 innings on the mound and the latter nearly 31 innings. The pair also finished among the top three hitters for the Hilltoppers as Booth registered a team-high 20 hits, which included two doubles and a home run, while Thuene finished third on the hit list with 18 with four going for doubles and another a triple.
Among the stable of returning starters and letter winners for head coach Dean Fayerweather, who begins his fifth season with a 19-47 record, are a pair seniors and four-year starters, Blake Fayerweather and Andrew Blaser. Blake Fayerweather, the head coach’s son and a honorable mention all-conference recipient last season, is the Hilltoppers’ only returning starting pitcher having thrown nearly 26 frames in 2024, finishing with a 2-1 record. He was also the team’s second-leading hitter with 19. Blaser will once again anchor the outfield in center.
Other returning letter winners include Jake Wood, Caleb Klinger, Sam Cassellius, Brody Riba, Mitchel Main, Jacob Hager, Brock Wood and Corey Strong.
According to Coach Fayerweather, junior Brody Riba and sophomore shortstop Brock Wood should have a solid impact on how the team performs in 2025.
Coach Fayerweather also sees potential in his seven sophomores including Jack Main and Langston Walz.
Fayerweather acknowledges the return of seven experienced starters as a definite team strength along with the leadership of five seniors that also includes Caleb Klinger, Jake Wood and Sam Cassellius.
A team weakness, per Coach Fayerweather, may be the members playing with a baseball IQ and not always on a reaction.
“The team needs to play error free and keep hitting for average.” Coach Fayerweather stated. “As a team last season, we hit at a .306 average.”
“Our goals will focus on understanding the game and how it is played. Coaches believe in teaching baseball IQ at all positions,” he added.
Fayerweather has Elk Mound, the defending conference champion, and Mondovi, last year’s runner-up, finishing atop the 2025 Dunn-St. Croix baseball standings once more, but added that Boyceville can never be counted out.
Fayerweather will once again be assisted by Josh Klinger and Rick Thuene.
