NEW AUBURN — After getting off to a 3-2 start, the Glenwood City girls’ basketball team lost its third consecutive game last Tuesday, December 17. The girls traveled to New Auburn for a non-conference contest and were soundly beaten by the undefeated Lady Trojans, 51-29.
Glenwood City was able to keep the game fairly close in the first half as it trailed by eight points, 19-11, in what was a slow-paced, low-scoring opening half.
New Auburn, however, heated up in the second half and outscored Glenwood City 32 to 18 to take the 22-point victory and remain perfect for the season.
The game was to serve as a warm-up for Glenwood City’s rivalry game against the Boyceville Bulldogs two days later. That contest, however, was postponed until February 17 after both schools were closed last Thursday due to a snow storm.
The Hilltoppers got off to a slow start in New Auburn and were never able to recover.
Sophomore Tori Ohman was Glenwood City’s top points getter versus the Trojans as she finished with nine points and also led her team in rebounds and steals with seven and three, respectively.
Kaylin Brandt tallied six points and two boards, Lillie McGee chipped in for five points, two rebounds and two steals, Anaka Eliason added four points and a steal and rebound. While Kirah Krueger netted three points, four rebounds and a pair of steals and Yadi Moreno capped the team scoring with a deuce.
Although lone senior and Topper post player, Isabel Davis, was held scoreless, she did collect five rebounds, got three steals and blocked three Trojan shots.
The Hilltoppers, now 3-5 overall, are on break until January 3 when they go to Luck for a non-conference contest.
