ELK MOUND — The Lady Mounders moved their early-season basketball record to an unblemished 3-0 with a non-conference, home victory over Fall Creek last week.
After holding a 25-17 advantage at halftime, Elk Mound stepped on the offensive accelerator in the second half and pulled away as it outscored the Crickets 34-15 in the final 18 minutes of action to post a 59-32 win in the Tuesday, November 26 contest.
A pair of juniors accounted for 35 of Elk Mound’s 59 game points. Allie Robel led all scorers with 21 points on ten, two-point hoops (five in each half) and a free throw while teammate Belle Kongshaug sank three of the Mounders’ four triples, all in the latter half, and went 5-for-5 at the charity stripe to finish with 14 points.
Seniors Allie Roder, Hailey Meyer and Ellie Schiszik were responsible Elk Mound’s remaining points. Roder tallied nine which included the squad’s other three-point make, Meyer had eight and Schiszik finished with seven.
Robel also led her team in rebounds and steals with ten and two, respectively. Schiszik, Roder, Kongshaug and Claire Roff had four rebounds each as the Mounders finished the game with 32 in all. Schiszik led the team in assists with six and Roder added four.
Elk Mound finished 11-for-20 at the charity stripe.
Addy Haynes was the only Cricket to finish in double digits as she finished with ten points, Becca Sturz had seven and Sophie Schmidgall tallied six.
The Mounders open their final season of Dunn-St. Croix Conference play this Thursday when they host Durand-Arkansaw. Elk Mound will play Chippewa Falls McDonell Central in Colfax this Saturday, December 7 at 8:45 p.m. The team will then go to Boyceville next Tuesday, December 10.
