The Elk Mound baseball team claimed a trio of victories last week including a pair of Dunn-St. Croix contests to stay unbeaten.
The week got underway last Tuesday, April 8th in Boyceville where the Mounders began the defense of their Dunn-St. Croix Conference championship. Boyceville held an early 3-1 advantage, but the Elk Mound offense came to life in the fourth inning for five runs and went on to post a 15-4 win over the host Bulldogs in a full seven innings.
Two days later, Victor Noller held Glenwood City to just two hits and four runs in four innings of work as Elk Mound prevailed 17-4 in the five-inning conference game played at the Mounders’ Village Park.
Just 24 hours later, Elk Mound welcomed Bloomer for a non-conference contest. The Mounders rallied for three runs in the final two innings to nip the Blackhawks 5-4 for their third win in as many games.
Elk Mound, now 5-0, has a pair of conference road games slated for this week. The Mounders were at Colfax this past Monday, April 14 and will go to Mondovi on Thursday.
Boyceville
Elk Mound found itself trailing 3-1 after three innings of action when it visited Boyceville for the 2025 Dunn-St. Conference baseball opener Tuesday, April 8.
But, the Mounders finally got to the Bulldogs’ pitching ace, junior Carson Roemhild, in the top of the fourth inning as they plated five runs to take a 6-3 lead and chased Roemhild from the mound.
Elk Mound continued to score the rest of the contest putting another run on the score board in the fifth, three more in the sixth and another five runs in the seventh. Boyceville added its final run in the bottom of the seventh to make the final tally 15-4 in the Mounders’ favor.
Elk Mound collected 11 hits, four of which went for extra bases, and took advantage of seven Bulldog errors to claim the win. Parker Rhude went hit a home run and a double in five plate appearances and finished with five RBIs and scored twice. Victor Noller, Gavin Dean, Kaden Moyer, and Peyton Vieth also had two hits with one of Noller’s and Vieth’s going for doubles. Vieth and Dean both tallied a pair of RBIs.
Quentin Spehle earned the pitching victory for Elk Mound as he allowed just three hits and a run in four innings of work and recorded four strike outs without a walk. Kamron Diermeier threw three innings and allowed three runs on five hits with six punch-outs and three walks.
Roemhild took the loss for Boyceville after giving up five runs on four hits in three and a third innings on the mound. He K’ed five, but walked four.
Boyceville finished with nine hits led by 2-for-3 performances from Roemhild and Zach Hellendrung who hit a solo home run for the Bulldogs.

Glenwood City
Returning home Thursday, April 10, Elk Mound hosted Glenwood City in another conference clash.
The Hilltoppers scored three runs in the top half of the first and added another run in the second to go ahead 4-0.
Elk Mound scored a pair in its half of the second and then added four runs in the bottom half of the third to take a 6-4 lead.
Elk Mound didn’t relinquish that advantage.
The Mounders blew open the contest with an 11-run fourth. Rhude was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Will Thatcher singled, scoring one run, Mason Books was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Brayden Borek singled, scoring two runs, Diermeier singled, scoring two runs, Noller doubled, scoring one run, an error scored two runs, and Thatcher singled, scoring one run.
Elk Mound went on to claim the 17-4 win in five innings.
Noller earned the win for Elk Mound. The starting pitcher gave up three hits and four runs (two earned) over four innings, striking out five and walking four.
Elk Mound tallied nine hits in the game. Thatcher led the way with four runs batted in and went 2-for-4 on the day. Noller went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Elk Mound in hits. Borek collected two hits for Elk Mound in three at bats. Borek stole two bases. Elk Mound finished with five stolen bases.
Blake Fayerweather took the pitching loss for Glenwood City. He went three innings, allowing six runs (one earned) on two hits, striking out three and walking two.
Jake Wood, Caleb Klinger, and Fayerweather accounted for the Toppers’ three hits.
Bloomer
Just a day after rallying at home to defeat Glenwood City, Elk Mound needed another home-cooked comeback when it welcomed Bloomer to Village Park last Friday, April 11.
In a battle between early-season unbeatens, the visiting Blackhawks (3-1) held a 4-2 lead entering the bottom half of the sixth. That’s when the Mounders, who had led 2-0 after one inning of play, plated a pair of runs to knot the game at 4-4. Then, in its final at-bat, Elk Mound scored the game winning run to take a thrilling 5-4 win over Bloomer.
Peyton Vieth was the only Mounder with more than one hit as he finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs and scored a pair of runs. Noller, Diermeier, Moyer and Borek each had one hit with Borek’s going for a double.
Borek also earned the pitching victory. In his three innings firing the hard ball, Borek allowed just two hits and one run and registered four Ks without allowing a walk. Spehle, who started the game, threw four complete frame and allowed three hits and three runs with five strike outs and two walks.
