ELK MOUND — The Elk Mound softball squad evened its season record at 3-3 after it won two of its three home games last week.
In a non-conference contest played Tuesday, April 8, Elk Mound defeated Bloomer 15-5 in six innings.
In a conference game played two days later, the Mounders came away with another 10-run win as they disposed of the Glenwood City Hilltoppers 12-2 also in six innings. That win kept the Lady Mounders in a first-place tie atop the Dunn-St. Croix Conference along with Boyceville, Colfax and Durand-Arkansaw. All four sport 2-0 marks in league play.
The Mounders wrapped up their week against the defending Division 3 state champion Cardinals of Prescott in an out-of-league contest played Friday, April 11 in Elk Mound. The Cardinals proved too much as they defeated the host Mounders 11-0 in five innings. It was the second time in six days that Elk Mound faced a defending state champion. The previous Saturday, Fall Creek, the reigning Division 4 state champ, visited the Mound and left with a 21-0 win.
The Mounders had a pair of early week contests. They were in Colfax Monday and traveled to Thorp yesterday (Tuesday, April 15).
Bloomer
Elk Mound scored runs in all six innings of its non-conference home contest against Bloomer Tuesday, April 8.
The result was a 15-5 win by the host Mounders who finished with eight hits in the game.
Elk Mound scored three runs in the first, four in the second and third innings, two in the fourth, and a run in the fifth and sixth frames.

Hailey Meyer pitched all six innings to earn the win. She was responsible for all five Bloomer runs on four hits. She walked four and struck out a trio.
Glenwood City
Elk Mound roughed up Glenwood City hurler Kirah Krueger for 15 hits and took advantage of four Topper fielding errors to claim a 12-2 conference home win last Thursday, April 10.
Ellie Schiszik, Jaidynn Sarauer and Hailey Meyer all finished the game with three hits. One of Sarauer’s hits went for a triple as she scored three times and tallied two RBIs. Meyer also plated a pair of runs and two RBIs. Autumn Moquin went 2-for-4 with a double, four RBIs and two scores. Alexis Joachim also had a pair of hits in four at-bats and finished with two RBIs.
Sarauer added four stolen bases, Schiszik had three and Elisabeth Beskow, who had a hit, also finished with a stolen bag.
Meyer stayed in the pitching circle all six innings to pick up the win. She allowed six hits, but just two runs and struck out eight against just one walk.
Prescott
For the second time in less than a week, Elk Mound was shut out at home by a reigning state champion.
The Prescott Cardinals, the defending Division 3 state titlist, came to Elk Mound last Friday, April 11 and left with an 11-0 non-conference victory in five innings.
That loss came six days after D4 state champion Fall Creek rocked host Elk Mound 21-0 in an April 5 contest.
The Cardinals, who tallied 14 hits in the game, scored five runs in the third, four in the fifth and single scores in the first and fourth innings.
Elk Mound managed just a pair of hits off Prescott pitching. Schiszik and Moquin each had a single.
Meyer suffered the pitching loss. She gave up all 11 Cardinal runs on a dozen hits, walked a trio and had three strike outs in four and two-third innings. Elisabeth Beskow threw a third of an inning and surrendered two hits, but no runs.
