Elk Mound boys capture first at GC Track and Field Invite, Colfax teams finish sixth

GLENWOOD CITY — In their first outdoor meet of the season, the Elk Mound and Colfax boys’ and girls’ track and field teams competed in the seven-team Glenwood City Invite held under cool and overcast conditions at Glenwood City High School on Thursday, April 10.
The Elk Mound boys claimed the top spot with 134 points, 16 ahead of host and runner-up Glenwood City. The Mounder boys registered 19 top-four finishes and had 31 places among the top eight in events to earn team points. The Elk Mound girls took fourth with 87 points. The Boyceville girls won first place with a score 154.5 followed by Clear Lake and Elmwood-Plum City with 140.5 and 126, respectively.
Both the Colfax boys’ and girls’ teams finished sixth in the meet. The Viking boys scored 70 points while the ladies finished with 42 points.
Elk Mound
The Mounder boys had a pair of individual champions in the meet.
Senior Keinin Miller sprinted to gold in the 100 meters in 11.34 and junior Rownan Soul-Stewart finished first in the 110 m high hurdles with a run of 17.20. In addition, Keinin Miller copped a second-place finish in the 200 meters (23.21).
Senior Parker Dutzle finished the day with two thirds and a fourth. Like Miller, Dutzle performed well in the sprints taking a bronze in the 100 meters (11.72) and a fourth in the 200 meters (24.32). He also went 38’ 1” in the triple jump to place third.
Two Elk Mound freshmen earned silvers. Adam Roder was the runner-up in both hurdling events (110 m highs and 300 m intermediates) and Tom Hasse put the shot 38’ 2.25” for his second-place finish.
Junior Teegan Wright earned a third in the 400 meters with senior Aidan Schindler placing fourth just a second later. Freshman Graedin Miller went 5’ 6” in the high jump to also place third.
The boys also did well in the relay events, taking a second in the 4×800, fourths in the 4×100 and 4×200 and a fifth in the 4×400.

On the girls’ side, junior Allie Robel and sophomore Lauren Gabert were double winners. Robel captured first in both the 100 m high hurdles (16.22) and 300 m low hurdles (47.66) while Gabert won the long jump (16’ 1.5’) and the triple jump (31’ 1”). Gabert also placed fourth in the 200 meter dash and was fifth in the 100 meter dash.
Taylor Frinack placed in three events. The junior took third in the 200 meters (28.36) and pole vault (7’ 6”) and finished fourth in the 100 meters (13.60).
The girls’ 4×800 m relay team took third while the 4×100 and 4×200 m relay squads both finished fourth.

The Colfax boys were led by sophomore James Wahl who won the shot put with a heave of 41’ 0.5”.
The boys’ also added a win in the 4×800 meter relay when it completed the race in 9:27.23. The 4×400 squad finished third while the 4×200 and 4×100 teams were fifth and sixth, respectively.
Senior Theo Hovde added a silver in the 400 meters with a time of 55.11.
Freshman Isaiah Entzminger was third in the 1,600 meter run, junior Charlie Charbonneau placed fourth in the 800 meters, and freshman Jacob Wahl (400 m), junior Grant Palewicz (800 m) and senior Nate Edwards (discus) all earned a fifth-place finish.
Senior Hannah Peterson earned the Colfax girls’ their only gold at the meet with a win in the 400 meter run which she completed in 1:05.51. Peterson also took fourth in the 800 meters.
Junior Clara Hydukovich, following in the foot steps of her older sister Jeanette, finished second in the discus with a toss of 100’ 9” and placed fourth in the shot put with a best effort of 27’ 7”.
Freshman Veronika Leavens scored points for the Lady Vikings in three events. She was fourth in the long jump and placed seventh in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes.
