SPRING VALLEY — The Elk Mound cross country teams competed at Spring Valley High School on Thursday, October 3. The high school girls’ team placed third out of four teams and the boys placed fourth out of six teams.
In the girls’ competition, Boyceville won the meet with 35 points, Prescott took second with 42 points and the Elk Mound girls scored 74 points. The Mounders beat the Durand-Arkansaw team who placed fourth with 78 points.
Runners from Colfax, Elmwood-Plum City, Glenwood City and Spring Valley also competed in the race but did not have enough athletes to form a team.
Kyra Dix of Prescott took first in the 5K race with a time of 20.51.4 out of 47 runners. Senior Ellie Schiszik was the first lady Mounder to cross the finish line. She placed second with a time of 21:09.9.
Jaidynn Sarauer was the teams’ second runner. She placed fourth with a time of 21:24.4. Elisabeth Beskow came in third for the team placing 32nd with a time of 25:48.7. Yolo Delgado and Kylee Anderson were the fourth and fifth runners coming in 38th and 42nd with times of 27:05.2 and 28:07.8.
In the boys’ competition, Glenwood City won the meet with a score of 40, Prescott took second with a score of 46 and Durand-Arkansaw took third with 61 points. Elk Mound scored 111 points beating Boyceville and Spring Valley. Runners from Colfax and Elmwood-Plum City also competed but did not have enough members to make a team.
Hudson Banaszak and Dalton Banaszak were the teams’ top two finishers placing 18th and 19th out of 67 runners with times of 19:42.9 and 19:54.6. Zayne Richardson of Durand-Arkansaw won the race with a time of 17:04.7.
Following the Banaszaks, four teammates crossed the finish line within seconds of each other placing 28th, 29th, 30th and 31st. They were Keston Niven, Blake Niska, Brody Niven and Jack Stroh. All of them had times of 20 minutes 50 seconds or less.
Middle School
In the 3k middle school race the Elk Mound boys team took first out of six teams with a score of 27. The girls’ team took fourth place out of eight teams with a score of 119.
In the middle school boys’ competition, the Elk Mound team took first, second and third. Jaxon Glaus was first with a time of 11:10 he was followed by Grady Westland who had a time of 11:11.5 and Zach Knudson who had a time of 11:13.4.
Victor Ludwig and Brian Hase were the fourth and fifth runners. They placed 10th and 13th out of 65 runners.
The top two runners on the middle school girls’ team were Emma Ottosen and Haddie Dummer who placed 17th and 18th, respectively, with times of 13:31.6 and 13:37.4.
Elise Carstens placed 21st out of 66 runners and was the team’s third runner. Braelynn Mayer and Natalie Schram also scored points coming in 31st and 32nd.
The Mounders compete in a pair of meets this week. Yesterday (Tuesday, October 8), the runners were at Amery and will then compete in Boyceville, site of the D-SC Conference meet, on Saturday, October 12.
