Mounder volleyball wins another home quad; fall at Stanley-Boyd, McDonell

Elk Mound’s volleyball team had a busy schedule last week. Playing in three different venues on three separate days, the Mounders split their six matches.
Elk Mound lost in straight sets at Stanley-Boyd last Tuesday, swept all three of its contests in Thursday’s home quad and lost a pair of matches in the Chippewa Falls McDonell Invitational that was held this past Saturday. With its 3-3 record in those matches, Elk Mound is currently 9-6 on the season.
Elk Mound will open Dunn-St. Croix Conference action this Thursday, September 19 in Boyceville. On Saturday, they will compete in an invitational at Eau Claire North. Next Tuesday, September 24, they tip off against the rival Vikings in Colfax.
Stanley-Boyd
The week began with a match at Stanley-Boyd last Tuesday, September 10. The Lady Mounder were swept by the host Orioles in three sets. The first two games were close affairs with Stanley-Boyd prevailing by identical scores of 25-22. The third set was not as tight. The Orioles cruised to the win with a 25-13 win in the third and final set.
No team or individual statistics for the Stanley-Boyd match were provided to the Messenger or posted online.
Home Quad
Two days later, Elk Mound returned to its home gymnasium where it hosted its second quadrangular meet in as many weeks. Elk Mound defeated its three opponents to finish atop the team standings with a 3-0 record.
In the opening round of last Thursday’s quad, saw the Mounders sweep Middle Border Conference member 25-16 and 25-20.
Elk Mound faced another Middle Border squad, the Panthers of Ellsworth, and again came out on top, by a 2-1 margin. The Mounders pulled out a tight first set in extended play 27-25. Ellsworth returned the favor as it took the second set by two points, 23-25. The third and final set was also decided by two points with the host Mounders taking the set and match 15-13.
In its final match of the quad, Elk Mound dominated fellow Dunn-St. Croix member Glenwood City in straight sets by scores of 25-12 and 25-15.

Ellsworth, Somerset and Glenwood City all finished the meeet with 1-2 records.
Neither team nor individual statistics for the home quad were provided to the Messenger or posted online.
Chippewa Falls McDonell Invite
In the two matches that were reported from Saturday’s tournament at Chippewa Falls McDonell, Elk Mound lost 2-0 in tight sets to both Baldwin-Woodville and Cameron.
Baldwin-Woodville took the win on scores of 26-24 and 25-17 while Cameron prevailed 27-25 and 25-19.
No other scores or statistics from the tournament were reported as of Monday afternoon’s printing deadline.
