After Colfax pulled out to a 1-0 lead, the Toppers used five straight hits, including two doubles by Brock Wood and Blake Fayerweather to move ahead 5-1 after an inning of play.
The Vikings pulled closer with a couple of third-inning tallies but it was all Glenwood City after that as they took advantage of several Colfax errors along with timely hits to put up four runs in the fourth, two in the fifth and finished it off with five more in the sixth.
In the Glenwood City fourth, Wood led off with a hit and Steven Booth reached safely on a Colfax error. After Peyton Theune struck out, Fayerweather walked to the load the bases. Wood came home to score on passed ball, Brody Riba singled home Booth. Then with two outs, Caleb Klinger sent a double to deep right that plated both Fayerweather and Riba to give Glenwood City a 9-3 lead.
With two out in the fifth, the Hilltoppers tacked on two more scores with three consecutive hits. Booth started with a hit, Theune followed with a triple that sent Booth in with the score. Fayerweather followed with a base hit that brought Theune home and made the score 11-3.
Colfax scored three runs in the top of the sixth, but Glenwood City answered with five in the bottom half to bring the game to an end. Sam Cassellius started the scoring spree with a lead-off single, Klinger followed with a hit and Andrew Blaser drew a walk to load the bases. A passed ball allowed a Topper run to score. Corey Strong was hit by a pitch to juice the bases once again. Brock Wood then delivered his second two-bagger of the game which scored Klinger and Blaser. Booth came to the plate and hit a deep single to right that brought both Strong and Wood home to end the game.
