Mueller and Miller place in three events to pace Mounder boys in Colby Track Invite

COLBY — Taking the opportunity for one final tune-up prior to the Dunn-St. Croix Conference meet, which was held yesterday in Boyceville, and to compete on the track and field complex that will host the WIAA Division 2 sectional meet in a little more than a week, the Elk Mound Track and Field squads competed at the Colby Invitational Tuesday, May 6.
The Mounder boys’ team placed fifth out of a dozen schools with a final tally of 68 points while the girls’ quad tallied 28 points to finish ninth. Stratford claimed the boys’ championship with 120 points and Rice Lake won the girls’ competition with a score of 139. Hayward placed second in the boys’ (107) and girls’ (136) team scores.
Senior Grandt Mueller and junior Keinin Miller each scored team points in three events. Mueller took the silver medal in both the high jump (5’ 10”) and the triple jump (40’) and finished fourth in the 110 meter high hurdles with a run of :16.88. Miller sprinted to second place in the 200 meters in a time of :22.95, ran a :11.65 to finish third in the 100 meters and leaped 18’ 4” in the long jump to place fifth.
Another pair copped points and place finishes in two events. Senior Tyler Gagner took fifth in the 300 meter intermediate hurdles (:43.36) and eighth in the 100 meters (:11.97). Junior Landon KasaKaitas threw 123’ 9” in the discus to place fourth and took seventh in the shot put with a best of 41’ 5”.
Sophomore Rownan Soul-Stewart placed fifth in the 110m high hurdles (:17.79).
Three of the four boys’ relays also scored points in Colby. The 4×100 (:46.15) and 4×800 m (9:36.27) relay teams both copped third-place finishes while the 4×200 m (1:43.15) squad was eighth.
The Elk Mound girls were led by a pair of sophomores – Taylor Frinack and Allie Robel – who each placed in two individual events and ran a leg on the 4×100 m relay team that finished third.
Frinack was fifth in the 100 meter dash with a time of :13.53 and took seventh in the 200 meters after running a :28.91. Robel scored her team points with a pair of third-place finishes in the 100m high (:17.31 and 300 m low hurdles (:50.00).
The aforementioned girls’ 4x100m relay team that included Frinack and Robel along with senior Lydia Levra and junior Savannah Nechanicky copped the bronze with a run of :54.18.
Senior Carly Mohr also scored points for her team in a hurdle event when she placed fifth in the 100 meter high with a time of :18.27.
