DURAND — The Hilltoppers and Bulldogs enjoyed beautiful weather at the Durand-Arkansaw track and field invitational held last Friday. Nine teams competed and the Glenwood City boys placed third with 96 points while the girls took eighth with a score of 43. The Boyceville boys placed fourth scoring 82 points and the girls took sixth place with a score of 70.5.
Boyceville Boys
In the 100 meter dash, the Bulldog boys dominated with seniors Caden Wold and JJ Kurschner taking first and second with times of 11.04 and 11.52 seconds. Wold also placed first in the long jump with a leap of 23 feet and a half inch. Also taking first were the 4×100 and 4×200 relay teams with times of 46.01 seconds and 1 minute 33.94 seconds.
Other team members that placed highly were senior Peter Wheeldon in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 45.43 seconds and freshman Liam Moore-Girard in discus with a throw of 118 feet, both took second place. Sophomore Forest Bettendorf earned a third place finish in the two mile run with a time of 12 minutes 41 seconds.
Some more points were scored by freshman Jon Frett who placed fifth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.53 seconds and by junior Mark Knops in shot put with a throw of 38 feet 1 inch which was good for fourth place.

Glenwood City Boys
Two Hilltopper boys took home first place at the meet. They were sophomore Brady Thompson in the 400 meter run with a time of 52.68 seconds and senior Conner Gross in the shot put with a throw of 45 feet 11.75 inches. Two of their relay teams also placed first.
Three other throwers also placed. Senior Tucker Augeson who took third in shot put with a throw of 42 feet 10 inches. Sophomores Ben Klatt got fourth in discus with a throw of 108 feet 4 inches and Logan Klatt took fifth in the event coming in at 107 feet 8 inches.
Clayton Hoffman continues to excell in the long distance runs, taking second place in the 1600m with a time of 4:50.84.
Fourth place finishers included junior Justin Rogers in the 400 meter with a time of 56.84 seconds, Ilan Anderson in the half mile run with a time of 2 minutes 11.49 seconds and senior William Standaert in pole vault with a jump of 8 feet 6 inches.

Glenwood City Girls
Senior Haylie Hannah, who placed second in pole vault at state last year, took first in pole vault by a long shot, jumping 10 feet 6 inches, a full two feet higher than the second-place vaulter to set a Durand track record.
The team had a pair of second place finishers. They were sophomores Kyra Flick in shot put with a throw of 35 feet 8 inches and Ava Multhauf in high jump with a jump of 4 feet 8 inches.
Two of the Topper girls’ relay teams scored some points as did sophomore Alexis Alms in the 200 meter dash with a time of 29.59 seconds and senior Rileigh Schwartz in triple jump with a leap of 29 feet, both placed sixth.

Sophomores Halle Tonn and Brylee Stevens took second and third in pole vault with jumps of 8 feet 6 inches and 8 feet.
Freshman Kylee Schlough took fourth in the 400 meter run with a time of 1:08.22. Sophomore Ashlyn Maska was another fourth place finisher in the mile run with a time of 6 minutes 17.27 seconds.
Kylee also placed fifth in long jump with a leap of 14 feet 7.25 inches. Another freshman, Sydney Larson, also earned a fifth place in triple jump with a jump of 29 feet 10 inches.
