ELK MOUND — Hailey Meyer allowed just three hits and struck out 11 Cadott batters to help the Elk Mound softball team earn its second win of the season with a 7-2 triumph over the Hornets in a non-conference contest played n the Mounders home field Tuesday, April 9.
Meyer, who threw all seven innings in the pitching circle to earn the victory, also helped out her own cause as she collected two of her squad’s eight hits in the game and finished with a pair of RBIs. Teammates Kendra Garnett and Autumn Moquin also garnered a pair of hits against Cadott. Garnett finished 2-for-3 which included a double and a triple, scored twice and drew a walk while Moquin went 2-for-4 at the plate and scored a pair of runs. Meyer and Moquin each had a double among their two hits.
Ellie Schiszik and Alivia Baskin each had a single to account for the Mounders other two game hits.
Elk Mound finished with eight stolen bases as Schiszik collected three and Garnet two.
In its only other game of the week, the Mounders fell to Colfax at home last Friday, April 12 by a score of 5-2 in what was a well-played Dunn-St. Croix game between the rivals. Please see that game story elsewhere in sports.
The Lady Mounders entered this week with a 1-2 mark in the Dunn-St. Croix and a 2-3 overall record. They were slated to host Mondovi this past Monday, April 15 with road games in Glenwood City the following day (April 16) and Spring Valley Thursday. Elk Mound returns home next Tuesday to host Durand-Arkansaw.
