Much like he had three days earlier at the regional competition, Mueller jumped his way to state by earning a pair of runner-up finishes and a third in the WIAA Division 2 sectional meet held Thursday, May 25 at Cashen Field in Arcadia.
Mueller scored silver-medal finishes in the high jump and long jump and a third in the triple jump to earn berths in each at the WIAA State Track and Field Championships slated for this Friday and Saturday, June 2 and 3 at Veterans’ Memorial Stadium on the UW-La Crosse campus.
Mueller cleared six feet to finish tied for second in the high jump and was the runner-up in the long jump with a leap of 20’ 11.5”. He three-stepped his way third in the triple jump with a top attempt 41’ 7.25”. In his fourth event of the day, Mueller placed tenth in the 110 meter high hurdles with a time of :16.59.
The top four place finishers in each sectional event qualified for state while the top eight places scored team points.
Speedy sophomore Keinin Miller will be joining Mueller in La Crosse following a pair of state-qualifying finishes in Arcadia Thursday. Miller ran a :22.70 in the 200 meter finals to place third and was fourth in the 100 meters after finishing in a time of :11.37.

The state meet will begin Friday morning, June 2 with Division 2 and 3 state competitions and continue Saturday, June 3 with finals in all three divisions.
Mueller will compete Friday morning in the long jump and high jump and Saturday morning in the triple jump. The Mounder boys’ 4×100 m relay will also run Friday morning in the preliminaries with finals on Saturday. Miller will be competing in Friday morning’s state preliminary races of the 100 and 200 meters.

The boys’ 4×400 m relay also ran at Arcadia, finishing in 14th place.

While the Elk Mound girls’ did not have any of its four individual sectional representatives or its two relay teams qualify for this year’s state meet, they all were able to score points as the team finished in a 12th-place tie with conference foe Durand-Arkansaw after each tallied 17 points.
