Mounder boys take second, girls finish fifth in Mondovi track and field invite

MONDOVI — In their final tune-up prior to the Dunn-St. Croix Conference meet, which was held Tuesday in Durand, the Elk Mound boys’ and girls’ track and field squads competed in a ten-school invitational at Mondovi High School last Tuesday, May 9.
The Mounder teams appeared to be firing on all cylinders in Mondovi as the boys collected 129 points to finish in second place while the girls placed fifth with 56.5 points. Talented teams from Fall Creek won both the boys’ and girls’ competitions with respective tallies of 176 and 175 points.
Junior Grandt Mueller and sophomore Keinin Miller each copped a pair of first-place finishes in the meet to lead the Elk Mound boys.
Mueller cleared 5’ 10” to win the top spot in the high jump and soared 20’ 11” to capture a gold-medal finish in the long jump. He also placed fifth in the 110 m high hurdles following a run of :17.13.
Keinin Miller led a dominant performance by the Mounders’ male sprinters. Miller took first in both the 100 meter (:11.38) and 200 meter (:23.08) dashes. Teammates Carson Streifel, a junior, and senior Alex Woodford copped a pair of seconds and fourths, respectively, in those two sprints. Streifel ran a :11.49 100 meters and a time of :23.58 in the 200 meters to earn two silvers. Woodford crossed the 100 m finish line in :11.78 and clocked the 200 meters in :24.36.
Seniors Ian Hazen and Aidan Schiferl grabbed first and third-place finishes in the 1,600 meters. Hazen had a winning time of 4:33.50 while Schiferl came across the line in 4:40.21.
With the top eight place finishers in each event scoring team points, all four of the boys relay teams added to the team’s tally. The 4×100 m relay team took first, the 4×400 m relay came in second, the 4×200 squad was third and the 4×800 team placed fourth.
Junior Jessie Moyer scored points in the 3,200 meter run with a fourth-place finish and was tenth in the 1,600 meters.
Sevenths went to junior Bodie Folczyk in the 800 m, freshman Rownan Soul-Stewart in the triple jump and sophomore Landon Kasakaitas in the discus throw.
Sophomore Brooks Burcaw took home and eighth-place finish in the 400 meters as did freshman Trevor Best in the 3,200 meters and senior Tobey Westcott in the 300 m intermediate hurdles.
Although the Elk Mound girls were unable to secure any top individual finishes, their 4×400 meter relay squad placed first while senior Kate Mohr scored team points in a trio of events.
Kate Mohr finished third in he 100 m high hurdles (:17.25), took a fourth in the 300 m low hurdles and placed sixth in the high jump (5’ 8”).
Kate’s younger sibling, Carly Mohr, and freshman Allie Robel both pointed in a pair of events.
Carly Mohr, a junior, was sixth in the 100 m high hurdles (:18.25) and placed eighth in the 300 m low hurdles (:56.74). She was also 12th in the high jump.
Robel claimed a pair of seventh-place finishes in the 200 meters (:28.46) and the high jump (4’ 6”).
In the sprints, junior Lydia Levra claimed third in the 200 meters (:27.69) while senior Aleya Hadenfeldt finished fourth in the 100 meters (:13.41).
Junior Marley King finished fifth in the 1,600 meter run and just missed the points cut-off in the 800 where she was ninth.
Sophomore Savannah Nechanicky scored a seventh-place finish in the 400 and was 13th in he 200 meters.
After the conference meet, Elk Mound will return to Durand next Monday, May 22 for the WIAA Division 2 regional. Arcadia will host the sectional meet on Thursday, May 25
