GLENWOOD CITY — Although inclement weather once again forced the cancellation or postponement of several spring sporting events last week, Elk Mound was able to get in one track and field meet as it participated in an April 18 meet at Glenwood City that featured five Dunn-St. Croix schools.
Opting to bring just a partial squad to Glenwood City last Tuesday, with plans to have their other athletes compete in a Colfax meet on Thursday, which was ultimately canceled, the Elk Mound boys finished in fourth place with 33 points while the Lady Mounders scored just a single point to finish fifth.
Senior Alex Woodford paced the boys’ squad with a first and a second-place showing in Glenwood City April 18. Woodford, who scored 14 team points, won the 100 meter dash in :11.91 and was the silver medalist in the 200 meters following a sprint of :24.90.
The boys also scored points, which were awarded to the top five place winners in each event, in all four relay events. The 4×800 meter team placed second, the 4×100 meter squad was third and the 4×200 and 4×400 meter teams both took fourth.

Freshmen Teegan Wright and Grady Larson each placed fourth, Wright in the 400 meters and Larson in the triple jump. Graycen Banaszak was fifth in the shot put.
Sophomore Savannah Nechanicky scored the Elk Mound girls lone team point with a fifth-place finish in the 400 meters.
The Glenwood City squads dominated the meet with the Toppers boys amassing 171 points to take first while the girls scored 120 points for the top spot.
