MYRTLE BEACH, SC — The Elk Mound powerlifting team added to its collection of championship hardware at this year’s national championships.
Senior lifter Teagan Pahl completed the trifecta by winning her third consecutive national title at the 2023 USA Powerlifting High School Nationals held March 30 through April 2 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Elk Mound’s junior varsity powerlifters also claimed the combined boys’ and girls’ Raw National Championship.
Pahl once again dominated the national powerlifting stage en route to her third straight crown. COVID robbed her of an opportunity to compete for a chance at a fourth national championship when the 2020 nationals were canceled.
Two other Mounder women placed in the national varsity competition. Abigail Murphy and Chelsey Yang both copped eighth-place finishes in their respective weight classes.
Although none of the Mounders male counterparts were able to place, Dayne Laney and Alex Woodford both broke school records while lifting in Myrtle Beach.
In the junior varsity competition, Gabe Fenton placed first in his weight bracket. Runner-up finishes went to Andres Carillo. Lexy Joachim, Mason Books and Dushaun LeGrand. Hayden Wolf, Kara Woodford and Brooke Svihovec placed fourth, Preston Smith took eighth and Josh Braker and Cayden Brunner both finished in tenth place.
“The entire team set many new personal records and were awesome representatives of Elk Mound,” said coach Abe Ferguson his athletes time at the national competition.
