Elk Mound track teams compete in pair of UW-Stout indoor meets

MENOMONIE — With snow still blanketing outdoor facilities, the Elk Mound boys’ and girls’ track and field teams got their 2023 season underway last week when they competed in a pair of large indoor meets both hosted by UW-Stout at the Sports and Fitness Center.
Opening their respective track and field campaigns at the Blue Devil Invitational last Tuesday, March 21, the Elk Mound girls scored eight point to place 17th out of nearly 30 teams that included schools from all three divisions. The boys’ squad scored six points to place 21st.
Four days later, the Mounders returned to Stout’s Sports and Fitness Center to partake in the annual Northern Badger Classic. The Mounder gals finished in 20th place out of 30 teams in the small school division with six and a half points while the boys came in 22nd after scoring six points.
Blue Devil Invite
Just two Mounders, one girl and one boy, scored points and had top-eight finishes in Elk Mound’s first track and field meet of the season last Tuesday, March 21 in Menomonie.
Junior Lydia Levra accounted for all eight of her team’s points when she finished second in the 400 meter dash at the Blue Devil Invite. Levra clocked the sprint in 1:05.28.
The boys also had just one member score points in the meet. Sophomore Keinin Miller crossed the 200 meter finish line in third place following a sprint of :24.14.

Northern Badger Classic
Lydia Levra was the Mounders top place winner for a second consecutive meet as she captured third in the 200 meter dash at Saturday’s Northern Badger Classic with a time of :27.93 to account for six of her team’s six and a half points.
The ladies other half team point came via senior Kate Mohr who tied for eighth place in the high jump with a best effort of 4’ 6”.
A pair of sophomores accounted for all six of the boys team points. Keinin Miller ran to a fourth-place finish in the 200 meter dash with a time of :24.05 to collect four team points while classmate and teammate Landon Kasakaitas threw 39’ 11” in the shot put to take eighth which was good for a pair of team points.
