Elk Mound cross country competes in Rice Lake Invite, boys finish in 7th

RICE LAKE — In their only meet last week, the Elk Mound cross country teams traveled to the Rice Lake Invitational September 13.
The race was divided into Large and Small school divisions. Competing with the large schools including many from the Big Rivers, the Mounder boys placed seventh out of 15 teams with 171 points. Elk Mound finished last among the 17 girls’ teams with a score of 442.
Senior Ian Hazen was the top runner for the Mounders finishing fifth overall in a field of 198 runners with a time of 16:49.27. Fellow senior Aidan Schiferl was 11th in the large school division and 16th overall with a time of 17:31.54 followed by junior Caleb Beskow in 48th and 71st overall in 19:09.59, junior Bodie Focyzk took 52nd among the large-school runners and 80th overall in a time of 19:22.75, senior Lucas Hanson placed 57th and 86th in 19:30.08, another senior, AJ Miller, was 73rd and 134th overall with a 20:11.78 and freshman Brody Niven crossed the finish in 84th and 134th overall with a time of 21:11.49.
Glenwood City senior JJ Williams was the top individual runner as he finished in a time of 16:33.96. Hudson was the top large-school finisher with 73 points with Bloomer taking second just three points back.
Sophomore Ellie Schiszik was the top finisher for the Elk Mound girls. She ran a 22:32.06 to place 31st among the large-school competitors and 39th overall. Junior Marley King was the next Mounder to cross for the girls taking 97th and 130th overall with a time of 26:20.07. Senior Aleya Hadenfeldt ran a 26:31.33 to cross in 97th place among large-school runners and 134th overall, junior Carly Mohr was 108th and 162nd in 20:00.02 and sophomore Kylee Anderson placed 111th in the large-school division and 183rd overall in a time of 36:55.35,
Colfax senior Molly Heidorn bested the whole field of 184 individuals with a time of 19:41.66. Just three points also separated the top two girls’ teams as Osceola took the win with a score of 70 while Amery came in second with a 73.
In a field of 142 runners, senior Trae Schaefer won the boys’ junior varsity race in a time of 18:40.79. Junior Jesse Moyer finished 17th in 20:14.31, senior Tobey Westcott was 34th in 21:05.37, junior Cooper Reese came in 38th after a time of 21:12.69, freshman Grady Larson took 40th in 21:18.40, junior Evan Lauer ran a 22:11.15 for 66th and freshman Dalton Banaszak finished 117th in 25:16.45.
Elk Mound ran in Mondovi on Tuesday and will be at Durand on Thursday.
