GC golfers take two more seconds in D-SC play

Two more Dunn-St. Croix golf meets last week resulted in a pair of second-place finishes for the Glenwood City High School boys’ squad.
It’s the third time in four conference contests this season that the Hilltoppers have finished as the runners-up in the five-team meets.
Playing in Durand on Monday, April 25, the Hilltoppers wound up a distant second to the host Panthers, last year’s conference champion, by a whopping 28 strokes. Glenwood City scored a 210 while Durand, playing on its home course at Rolling Greens, tallied a 182 as three of its players shot in the 40s to finish in the top spot.
Four days later on the Valley Golf Course in Mondovi, Glenwood City was much more competitive as its posted a 189 over nine holes, just eight strokes in back of Durand who claimed its third straight conference victory with a 181.
Currently, Durand is leading on the points board with 19, followed by Glenwood City with 17, Colfax/Elk Mound has 12, Mondovi 7 and Spring Valley 5. Points are based on the placement at each meet with first place earning five points, second place is awarded four points, third receives three points, fourth gets two points and fifth receives a point.
The Hilltoppers will have an opportunity to make up some ground on the Panthers as they have three conference contests this week. They teed off Monday at Whitetail Golf Course near Colfax, travel to Spring Valley on Thursday and return home this Friday for a meet at Glen Hills.
Durand
The Toppers’ lone senior Owen Swenby carded a 48 last Monday in Durand to lead the varsity team.
Sophomore Ben Wittmer had the next best score with a 51 followed by junior Gabe Knops with a 54, freshman Esdyn Swenby shot a 57 and junior Ian Radintz closed out the Toppers’ varsity scores with a 58.
Taking the top four individual scores and adding them together gave Glenwood City a final tally of 210.
Durand’s Logan Weissinger shot a 40 on his home course to earn medalist (low score) honors while teammates Simon Bauer and Shane Prissel finished with a 44 and 47, respectively, as the Panthers easily finished in first place with a tally of 182.
Colfax/Elk Mound finished just four strokes behind the Hilltoppers with a 214, Mondovi was next with 216 and Spring Valley finished last after scoring a 226.
Mondovi
For a second straight meet, Owen Swenby turned in the top score for Glenwood City.
The senior shot a 42 last Friday, April 29 on the Valley Golf Course in Mondovi to help the Hilltoppers finish in second place once again.
Ian Radintz was just three strokes back with a 45 followed by Gabe Knops and Esdyn Swenby, who both turned in 51s, and Charlie Lamb finished with a 55.
Durand was again the victor with a total of 181 while Glenwood City finished with a score of 189. Colfax/Elk Mound had a 200 followed by Spring Valley at 218 and host Mondovi tallied a 237.
Shane Prissel of Durand was the top finisher with a 41.
Colfax/Elk Mound won the junior varsity meet with a 227 with Glenwood City scoring 246 for second, Spring Valley came in third at 265 and Mondovi was fourth with a 287.
Individually, Ben Wittmer led the GC junior varsity with a 57, Brett Peterson had a 59, Cole Wakeling and Jared Hager both shot a 65 and Wyatt Unser finished with a score of 70.
