When Elk Mound hosts Colfax this Thursday it will be for sole possession of first place in the Dunn-St. Croix Conference volleyball standings.
The Lady Mounders swept a pair of three-set matches from their conference foes last week to remain unbeaten in league play.
Elk Mound had to put in a bit of “extra” work in Durand last Tuesday, September 28 but eventually tamed the Panthers to earn a, three sets to none, victory. The Mounders then hosted the Bulldogs of Boyceville in the team’s final match of September on Thursday with Elk Mound prevailing in three straight to improve to an unblemished 4-0 in conference action and 15-12 overall.
The Mounders will welcome the Vikings, who also improved to 4-0, this Thursday to see who will take sole ownership of first place in the 2021 championship hunt.
Elk Mound will then head to Altoona for a multiple-school invitational this Saturday, October 9 before wrapping up the conference and regular season schedules with road games in Spring Valley next Tuesday, October 12 and at Plum City against the E/PC Wolves on Thursday, October 14.
Elk Mound 3, Durand 0
The Mounders were able to withstand the Panthers repeated attacks when they visited Durand last Tuesday, September 28.
After winning the first two sets by identical 25-21 scores, Elk Mound had to put in some “extra effort” in the third set before picking up the win and sweep with a 28-26 win over the pesky Panthers.
The Mounders registered 37 kills in the match, senior McKenna Diermeier collected 14 and junior Stella Rhude 11. Diermeier also led the team in digs with eight.
Junior Tori Blaskowski finished with six of the Mounders eight aces and 27 of the squad’s 33 assists.
Elk Mound 3, Boyceville 0
Just two days later, Elk Mound welcomed Boyceville to its home court and again earned a three-set sweep.
The Mounders won sets one and three on identical scores of 25-19 and prevailed 25-15 in the second set.
There were no team or individual statistics available for the Boyceville match as of Monday afternoon’s press time.
