MENOMONIE — With more than a week’s rest, the Elk Mound boys’ and girls’ cross country teams made the short trek west down Interstate 94 to compete in the Mustang Relays held at Menomonie High School this past Saturday, September 11.
The Mounder boys finished eighth out of nine teams with 169 points while the girls’ squad placed ninth with a 237.
Junior Ian Hazen had the top finish for the Mounders as he placed second in the boys’ individual standings after running a 17:04.7 on the 5K course.
Fellow classmate Aiden Schiferl placed fifth, just 13 seconds behind Hazen, with a time of 17:17.5.
Sophomores Tyler Gagner (52nd) and Caleb Beskow (54th) were the next to cross the finish line for the Mounders in respective times of 20:10.6 and 20:27.9.
Senior Cason Pederson was the fifth Elk Mound boy to finish taking 56th in 20:32.6. Sophomore Jesse Moyer and senior Carter Sundeen rounded out the varsity team placing 57th and 59th, respectively, with times of 20:33.7 and 20:56.1.
Freshman Ellie Schiszik was the top finisher for the Elk Mound girls, placing 15th in a time of 21:43.5.
The other lady varsity runners finished from 52nd to 62nd. Sophomores Madisyn Mohr and Marley King were 52nd and 53rd with times of 26:14.9 and 26:51, respectively. Another sophomore, Carly Mohr, ran a 27:46 to place 57th.
Junior Aleya Hadenfeldt was 60th in 28:53.6 while senior Kyra Hadenfeldt came in 62nd after a run of 29:11.9.
Holmen senior Cameron LaMere won the boys race in 16:56.6 while Menomonie senior Isabella Jacobsen ran an 18:16 to win the girls’ competition and help her team take the team title with a low score of 37. Eau Claire Memorial claimed the boys’ championship with a 77.
The Mounders have a pair of upcoming Tuesday meets. They traveled to Rice Lake for the UW-Barron County Invitational yesterday (September 14) and will be in Mondovi next Tuesday, September 21.
