Following the Labor Day break, the Elk Mound volleyball squad jumped into action and stayed quite busy playing eight matches in a five-day span.
That demanding schedule began with a trip to Eleva-Strum last Tuesday, September 7 where the Mounders dispatched the Cardinals in three straight sets and then returned home Thursday, September 9 to host their second quadrangular meet in a week and finished 2-1 with straight-set victories over Glenwood City and Ellsworth which followed a two sets to one loss to Somerset in the quad’s opening round.
Elk Mound then made the short trip to Chippewa Falls McDonell this past Saturday, September 11 to partake in the Debbie Roesler Memorial Invitational where it finished 3-1.
Elk Mound’s current record stands at 7-6 as it heads into conference play which begins this Thursday with a home match against Glenwood City. The Mounders will be at Eau Claire North on Saturday, September 18 for a multi-school tournament before traveling to Mondovi next Tuesday, September 21.
The trip to Eleva-Strum September 7 resulted in a three-set sweep for the Mounder netters.
Elk Mound won the opening set 25-16 and then clipped the Cardinals’ wings with back-to-back 25-20 victories in the second and third sets to the claim the victory.
In the match, Tori Blaskowski finished with 24 assists for the Mounders and Stella Rhude and McKenna Diermeier registered 14 and 12 kills, respectively, while Lauren Garnett and Blaskowski had three each and Gracie Carlton and Kate Mohr each had one. Diermeier led the team with 18 digs, Issie Hollister tallied 15, Brooke Emery finished with six, Blaskowski and Lydia Levra each had five while Rhude and Garnett finished with a pair each. Diermeier and Mohr also had a block in the non-conference win.
Hosting its second quad meet in a week, Elk Mound opened last Thursday’s play against Somerset of the Middle Border Conference.
The Lady Mounders won a thrilling 28-26 victory in the first set but lost the next two when the Spartans rallied for the win on scores of 16-25 and 12-15.
Elk Mound would find its winning ways during the final two matches of the evening.
Facing another Middle Border school, Ellsworth, in the middle round of play, the Mounders tamed the Panthers in two sets, winning by scores of 25-13 and 25-19.
Facing fellow Dunn-St. Croix combatant Glenwood City in its final match of the quad, Elk Mound swept the Hilltoppers in two sets winning 25-16 and 25-13.
CF McDonell Invitational
The Elk Mound spikers played well in last Saturday’s Debbie Roesler Memorial Invitational at Chippewa Falls McDonell Central finishing the tournament with a 3-1 mark.
The Lady Mounders posted wins over Loyal, Greenwood, and Cameron with their only loss coming at the hands of the host Macks.
