NEILLSVILLE — The Elk Mound softball team found a pretty rough go of things when they traveled to Neillsville for a WIAA Division 3 semifinal regional game June 14.
The Mounders connected for just four hits off Neillsville hurler Delaney Rochester with two of the hits coming off the bat of McKenna Diermeier in a 7-0 loss.
Neillsville scored four runs in the first and three in the second then used Rochester’s arm and their defense to hang on for the win.
Diermeier was the pitcher of record for the Mounders, allowing eight hits with three Ks and four free passes. Of the seven runs she gave up, only four were earned as the Mounders committed seven errors in the field.
Elk Mound finished their season with a 12-9 overall record and were 10-4 in Dunn-St. Croix conference play, tied for second with Mondovi. With no seniors on the team, the future looks bright for them.
