BLOOMER — With most of their competition against Division 3 schools this season, the Elk Mound boys’ and girls’ track and field teams traveled to Bloomer to compete in the WIAA regional against seven other Division 2 teams in hopes of qualifying as many individuals as possible for the sectional meet held three days later.
With help by two individual winners, the boys placed second behind St. Croix Central while the girls finished seventh in the team standings. The top four individuals advanced to the sectional held in Osceola last Thursday and the top eight places scored team points.
The Mounder boys had a 1-2 finish in the 100 meter dash with Spencer Wolf winning it (:11.34) and Braedon Pederson taking second (:11.52). Another speedster, Korbin Verdon, placed second in the 200 meter dash (:23.99) while Reese Cooper was seventh (:25.78), and teammate Tyler Ganger was eighth (:25.97).
Elk Mound had another 1-2 finish as Ethan Levra was the regional champion in the 400 meter dash (:55.96) and Antonio Meyer was second (:56.15). Verdon earned another second in the high jump (5’ 10”), Jack Gabert placed third in the triple jump (37’ 10.75”) and fourth in the 110 meter high hurdles (:19.07), and Pederson was fourth in the long jump (18’ 7.75”).
Cason Pederson finished sixth in the 800 meter run (2:17.28), Aiden Schiferl was sixth in the 1600 meter run (4:53.01), while Ian Hazen was eighth in the same event (4:57.48). Trae Schaefer added a sixth in the 3200 meter run (11:39.43) and Toby Westcott was also sixth in the pole vault (8’ 6”).
The relays were the strong point for the boys as three of the four teams qualified for the sectional meet. The 4×100 meter team was third with AJ Miller, Logan Schultz, Wolf, and Alex Woodford (:47.09), while the 4×200 meter squad was also third with B. Pederson, Verdon, Miller, and Wolf (1:37.73). The 4×800 team was also third with Hazen, Schaefer, Schiferl, and C. Pederson (9:04.19). The 4×400 group just missed a sectional berth, placing fifth for team points with Schultz, Levra, Miller, and Meyer (3:47.37).
The Mounder girls were led by Kennedy Pritchard with a second place in the 100 meter dash (:13.24), while Lydia Levra was also second in the 200 meter dash (:27.62), and Aleya Hadenfeldt was fourth in the event (:28.01). Olivia Schreiber placed fifth in the triple jump (29’ 8”) and Pritchard was seventh in the long jump (14’ 1.75”).
The relays were also a strength for the girls with three teams scoring points and two qualifying for the sectionals. The 4×100 meter team was third with Hadenfeldt, Levra, Pritchard, and Schreiber (:53.53) and the 4×800 meter team placed second with Carly Mohr, Kyra Hadenfeldt, Madison Lehman, and Mercede Rothbauer (11:41.14). The 4×400 was fifth, less then a second from qualifying with A. Hadenfeldt, Levra, Lehman, and Schreiber (4:33.56).
