Toppers run to success in Cadott

CADOTT – The Hilltopper track and field teams were able to add an extra meet to their schedule this past week when they headed to Cadott last Tuesday, May 11th.
“We were glad to add the meet on Tuesday,” remarked Topper head coach Carrie Blanchard. “It provided us the opportunity to go up against some other teams we will see if Regionals and Sectionals.”
The Hilltopper boys’ team took first place beating out Clear Lake, Bloomer, Cadott, Chippewa Valley Lightning Bolt, and Osseo-Fairchild. While the girls came in second against the same teams.
After three meets there are several individuals who are clearly dominating their events.
Yasmin Mendez once again took first place in both the shot put and discus. She threw 33 feet 5 inches in the shot put and 102 feet in the discus. Bella Rassbach took top honors again in the long jump with a distance of 15 feet 6.5 inches while Lexi Wannemacher again completed the 300m hurdles in the least amount of time in :49.60 seconds. All three girls are seniors.
For the boys, it was junior Austin Nelson blowing his competition away in the 400m with a winning time of 53.33.
Wannemacher and Nelson were also voted MVP in the running events at the meet.
Success also continued for several of the Topper relay teams. After three meets, the girls’ 4x100m relay and the 4x200m relay and the boys’ 4x400m relay have come out on top. The team of Maddie Booth, Marie Garcia, Hailey Hannah, and Brenna Schwartz make up both of the girls aforementioned relays. They won the 4×100 in a time of 54.25 and the 4×200 in 1:54.49. The boys’ team of Will Eggert, Wyatt Thompson, Brady Klatt, and Austin Nelson won the 4×400 in 3:47.10.
The Hilltoppers also had several other first place finishes at the meet. The girls’ 4x800m relay team consisting of Gabby Moede, Bella Simmons, Natasha DeSmith, and Kinzie Strong won in 11:27.53. Marie Garcia took the 100m dash in 13.6 and Will Eggert in 12.28. Bella Simmons ran the 1600m in 6:04.82 for first place and Bella Rassbach won the 400m in 1:05.79.
Kinzie Strong took the girls 800m in 2:51.96 while on the boys’ side Malachi Keller sprinted to first place in the 200m in a time of 25.48. In field events, it was Brady Klatt in first with a throw of 123-09 in the discus and Nick Hierlmeier with a throw of 37 feet in the shot put.
