CLEAR LAKE — The Glenwood City girls’ basketball team traveled to Clear Lake last Monday, December 14th to take on the Warriors on the hard court.
The Lady Tops went into the contest with a 1-4 record when they faced the Warriors, who made it to the state tournament last year with a 26-0 record but actually weren’t allowed to play due to the start of the COVID shut down.
Against this tough team, the Hilltoppers came up short losing 39-53.
According to head coach Carly Kittilson, the Lady Hilltoppers had great ball movement against Clear Lake’s zone defense and they were taking good shots. However, she conceded that they need to start knocking some of them down!
She went on to say that they started the game with unforced turnovers, which they need to continue to work on and limit those.
At the end of the half, the Warriors took a 28-17 lead into the locker room.
Kittilson stated that in the second half, the GC girls defended the Warriors post player more physically.
“Clear Lake’s post is a good ball player and she made some tough shots,” noted Kittilson.
The Lady Tops were able to get to within twelve points of the Warriors late in the game but unfortunately they weren’t able to get any closer.
It was a close second half with the Lady Tops scoring 22 points to the Warriors 25.
Maddie Oehlke led the Toppers in scoring for the evening with 17 points. She also pulled down eight rebounds. Bella Rassbach followed with eight points and nine rebounds. She also had three steals.
This turned out to be the only game this past week for the Lady Tops (1-5) as their scheduled game against Elmwood/Plum City was postponed. They played Clayton on Monday, December 21st and currently aren’t scheduled to play again until after the New Year.
