MARCUS KINBLOM
By Amber Hayden
ELK MOUND — With sports on hold for the time being, the Colfax Messenger is hoping to bring sports fans a little pick-me-up with stories of former area athletes that are competing at the collegiate level.
This week, we spoke with 2019 Elk Mound graduate Marcus Kinblom about how things have progressed for him at UW-Stout, where he is also competing in football.
Kinblom had chosen Stout for its close proximity to home, and for their football program and university set up.
“Their football scheme made the most sense to me,” he explained.
He is the son of Greg and Jennifer Kinblom, and has an older brother Lucas, 21, and a younger sister Morgan, 17.
His time spent in the classroom is focused on his Criminal Justice and Rehabilitation major with hopes to become a police officer or border patrol agent after he graduates in May of 2023.
During his first season at Stout, Kinblom was given a grey shirt, which he stated is given to a majority of incoming freshmen. This gave him time to lift weights and prepare for the 2020 football season.
“I’ve been lifting through ETS since September,” he stated. “As a grey shirt, you can’t suit up for games, or even participate in practices.”
But when players are given a red shirt, they are able to practice but unable to suit up for games, according to Kinblom.
He feels he has been taking the necessary steps to succeed on the field when his time comes, stating his body has gotten stronger and feels he is ready to play at the collegiate level.
“I’ve met a ton of good guys at Stout who like to work and improve themselves,” he said. “It’s a culture that we are continuing to become better and set a standard for.”
With the 2020 season still several months away, Kinblom is focused on helping the team in any way he can, whether it be scouting another team, special teams, or on defense. As long as Stout is winning games is all that matters to the college freshman.
“Thankfully I’ve been really healthy,” said Kinblom. “I haven’t had any setbacks at all, and I hope to continue my growth and progression as an athlete.”
