Lady Mounders end season, win/loss in D3 playoffs

The Lady Mounders had their basketball season come to an abrupt halt on Saturday evening, February 29, when they lost 59-32 on the road to the top-seeded Raiders of Arcadia in the WIAA Division 3 regional championship.
Elk Mound (#4) earned a spot in the regional title game after defeating (#5) Adams-Friendship at home the previous night, Friday, February 28, by a score of 51-38.
The Lady Mounders, with the tournament split, finished the 2019-20 season with an 18-6 record and second-place finish in this year’s Dunn-St. Croix race.
While the WIAA D3 tournament came to an end on the road in Arcadia for the Mounders with a score of 32-59. Unfortunately, at Monday’s press time there were no comments or stats reported for this game to the Colfax Messenger.
Adams-Friendship
Elk Mound was able to persevere against Adams-Friendship on Friday evening, February 28, to take a 51-38 win in their opening game of the WIAA D3 regional tournament.
In the only home game of the tournament, the Elk Mound ladies had to fight for every point they put up on the scoreboard against the Green Devils (13-9).
“We were able to persevere through a rough shooting night and some issues taking care of the basketball,” said head coach Jordan Kongshaug. “We made enough plays down the stretch, and I am proud of all the girls.”
Leading the Mounders on the court was senior Taya Schaefer with a total of 17 points, she had seven doubles and went three-for-three at the line.
Sophie Cedarblade and Hailey Blaskowski were able to help out with 21 points between the pair. Cedarblade had a double and two triples, and Blaskowski had four doubles, a lone trey, and was two-for-three at the line.
Heading into the locker room, Elk Mound found themselves with a small three-point lead (22-19), but came out in the second half and outscored Adams-Friendship by ten, 29-19, to secure the 51-38 victory
Elk Mound had just two other players score points for them, Stella Rhude and Tori Blaskowski. Rhude hit two shots from outside the arc and a double, and Blaskowski had two doubles and was two-for-two at the charity stripe.
