Elk Mound’s girls’ basketball team faced off against Regis and Boyceville and were able to take wins over both teams to close out the regular season at 17-5 overall and 11-3 in conference, good for second place in the Dunn-St. Croix’s final girls’ basketball standings.
A great offense fueled by Taya Schaefer led to a 67-51 road victory over the Eau Claire Regis Ramblers in a non-conference contest last Monday, February 17. Schaefer broke her own career high that evening as she came up big with 37 points from all areas of the court.
In the final conference game of the season, the Mounders were able to come up with another road win beating Dunn-St. Croix opponent, the Boyceville Bulldogs, 64-35. Elk Mound’s ability to shoot from the foul line helped out a great deal as it shot for 64 percent from the line.
The #4-seeded Mounders will take a few days off for practice after receiving an opening round bye in the WIAA Division 3 tournament before returning to the home court this Friday, February 28 when they host fifth-seed Adams-Friendship in a regional semifinal game. A win would put the Lady Mounders in Saturday’s championship.
