The Glenwood City boys’ basketball team is still searching for their first win as they dropped two more games this past week.
While head coach Tristan Kittilson has seem some improvement in his team during the season it hasn’t been enough to come up with that elusive win.
On Monday, January 27, the Hilltoppers traveled to Siren where they lost 42-62 to the Dragons in a non-conference contest. Then, on Thursday, January 30, they were still on the road as they took on the Durand Panthers, losing by just nine points, 57-66.
With the latest two setbacks, the Topper boys are 0-14 and 0-8 in Dunn-St. Croix play.
Glenwood City is hoping it can keep some of this good playing momentum going as they hosted the Colfax Vikings on Tuesday, February 4 and travel to Boyceville this Friday, February 7. Luck will come to Glenwood City for a non-conference tilt next Monday, February 10.
Siren
Coach Kittilson lamented that it was another tough loss for the Topper boys on the road when they played the Dragons.
“We really struggled to score the ball in the first half only reaching 13 points to Sirens’ 30. We showed some fight and effort in the second half but it was not enough,” said Kittilson who went on to say that Siren played well and shot the ball well making seven three-pointers.
The Hilltoppers were led by Brandyn Hallquist with 12 points followed by Drew Olson with ten. For the Dragons, it was Nathan Kosloski and Riley Churchill who each had 16 points. The Dragons have an overall record of 5-10 and are 2-7 in the Lakeland West conference.

Durand
On Thursday, the Hilltoppers did quite well in their Dunn-St. Croix battle against the Durand Panthers despite falling 57-66.
Coach Kittilson noted that, “It was by far our best team and individual performance. We really played well together and fought hard from start to finish, it was a battle from the start to the end!”
The Durand Panthers currently sit on top of the Dunn-St. Croix conference with a 7-1 record and are 11-3 overall.
For the Toppers to play so well against the top team in the conference one can only hope that they will continue on this track.
Kittilson continued his praise for his team, “We came out strong and made some nice plays and stops on defense. We hit a little rough patch in the first half but hit a three right at the end to be down ten at half 27-37.”
The second half was much of the same.
Both teams played well and battled back and forth. Kittilson felt the difference in the nine-point game was at the free throw line. The Toppers only shot 60% from the line going six-for-ten. The Panthers weren’t much better, shooting 65% from the line, but they had almost twice as many trips to the line shooting 11-for-17.
Kittilson also stated that his team gave up too many offensive rebounds.
Brandyn Hallquist had a tremendous night. He had a career night scoring 26 points which included four three-pointers. He also pulled down 16 rebounds and dished out several assists. Ethan Hanson and Gavin Janson also had good nights, playing strong and adding points; 13 for Hanson and 12 for Janson.
