The Mounders traveled to Bloomer last Monday and hosted the Boyceville Bulldogs on Friday evening and earned a split.
A struggling offense played a factor in Elk Mound’s 45-49 loss to Bloomer January 20 despite outscoring the Blackhawks 34-27 in the second half. The Mounders had just five athletes score during Monday’s game.
Four days later, Boyceville gave Elk Mound the run around as the Bulldogs forced the Mounders to take shots from outside but hit nine shots from beyond the arc. Sophie Cedarblade and Brooke Emery were big shooters for Elk Mound as the pair scored a combined 31 points to lead the Mounders to a 67-52 win on its home court January 24.
That win helped soothe the bitterness from Elk Mound’s second loss of the year to rival Colfax at home the previous evening. A complete story of the Janaury 23 contest can be found elsewhere in this week’s sports section.
Elk Mound, currently 5-3 in the D-SC and 8-4 overall, hosted Altoona this past Monday, January 27. Then last evening, Tuesday, January 28, the Lady Mounders opened a three-game road trip in Spring Valley with games in Plum City this Friday, January 31 against the Elmwood/Plum City Wolves and next Tuesday, February 4 in Somerset.
Bloomer
Elk Mound was on the road again last Monday evening, January 20, and after a slow start in the first half, they left Bloomer (12-2) with their third loss of the season, a 45-49 setback.
“We struggled offensively in the first half and dug ourselves a hole,” said head coach Jordan Kongshaug. “We battled back, but fell a little short.”

Elk Mound found themselves down double digits at the half, 11-22, but were able to take charge in the second half of Monday’s contest and outscored the Blackhawks by seven points, 34-27. But the second-half rally fell short.
Tori Blaskowski and Olivia Schreiber were the only other players that scored for Elk Mound. Blaskowski had three doubles and a trey and Schreiber hit a pair of threes and was one-for-two at the line.

Boyceville
The Elk Mound ladies were caught off guard a bit as the Boyceville Bulldogs gave them a run for their money in both halves of last Friday evening’s, January 24, Dunn-St. Croix contest. Elk Mound was able to prevail 67-52.
Boyceville (2-7, 5-9) jumped out to a quick three-point lead as Tyra Kostman put up a triple from outside the arc, but Tori Blaskowski was quick to answer back with a double of her own.
Blaskowski was sent to the line six seperate times over the course of the 36-minute game and went nine-for-twelve with a double for 11 points.
The Mounders defense put on a full-court press leaving Boyceville to figure out ways to get the ball down the court. Elk Mound forced several turnovers in the opening minutes which ended in points put up on the scoreboard.
During the first half of the game, Boyceville’s Tyra Kostman was charged with a foul, but during the block she was knocked down and hit her head hard on the floor. Kostman was taken to the locker room as part of a concussion protocol, but returned to the game with 3:35 left in the first.
Sophie Cedarblade led Elk Mound and was tough to shut down from outside the arc, 15 of her 17 points were scored off triples and she was two-for-two at the line.
Going into halftime, the Mounders had a three-point lead, 31-28, and were able to squeak out the win by outscoring Boyceville by 12 points, 36-24, in the second half.
Coming in off the bench was Brooke Emery, who looked strong from outside as she put up four triples and a lone double for the Mounders.
Throughout the game, both Elk Mound and Boyceville struggled foul wise, there were 44 fouls committed between the teams.
Hailey Blaskowski and Taya Schaefer had 25 points between the pair. Blaskowski was seven-for-twelve at the line with two doubles, and Schaefer had six doubles and was two-for-two at the foul line.
