MENOMONIE — With the weather cooperating on Saturday, September 14, the Mounder harriers took to the Menomonie course but lost their footing as they finished in seventh place for the men. The girls did not have enough athletes competing to earn team points.
“What a beautiful day for a meet and was wonderful competition,” said Mounders’ head coach Jeremiah Fredrickson. “On the boys’ side, we had several kids step up and run some personal records against some very good competition.”
La Crosse Logan and Hudson finished in the one and two spot for the boys, while the girls’ competition saw Hudson and Eau Claire Memorial take the top two positions.
Senior Cade Hanson shaved off nearly 30 seconds from his time last week as he finished in sixth place with a time of 16:54.4.
Andrew Pathos finished in fourteenth place for the Mounders with a time of 17:48.8, and Elk Mound’s third runner to cross was Lukas Wagner with a time of 18:05.3 to take 20th place.
Menomonie ran their race a little different as they grouped the first and second runners together, then grouped three through five, and six through eight.
Brady Hunsnucker and Carter Sundeen finished in 68th and 71st place with times of 19:47.6 and 19:56.3.
“Both Carter and Brady went under 20 minutes for the first time this season and did a great job filling in for some runners who were off with the marching band for the weekend,” Fredrickson said.
Also, finishing for the Mounders was Walker Banaszak in 76th place and a time of 20:18.1, Avery Lauer in 82nd with a time of 20:48.5, and Keagan McRea finished in 83rd and a time of 20:55.1
“On the girls’ side the injury bug has bitten us badly,” Fredrickson explained. “That plus the band left us with just a few running.”
The Mounders had just three ladies run for them in Menomonie on Saturday.
Kyra Hadenfeldt was the first to cross the finish line for Elk Mound with a time of 25:45.2 for 63rd place.
Amber Best and Aleya Hadenfeldt were the last two runners for the Mounders to cross in 65th and 67th place with times of 26:01.0 and 27:26.3.
“Kyra and Aleya Hadenfeldt both ran season bests,” stated Fredrickson.
The Mounders were in Rice Lake yesterday afternoon, Tuesday, September 17 and will take the following week off to rest and get healthy before heading to Mondovi next Tuesday, September 24.
