Hanson wins again to lead Elk Mound boys’ harriers to first-place finish

HAMMOND — The Elk Mound cross country runners were in Hammond last Thursday, September 5, for their second meet of the season. And for the second consecutive race the Mounder boys ran away with the team title besting host St. Croix Central by ten points 54 to 64.
The Elk Mound ladies finished 11th in the 12-team invitational which featured several Division 2 schools.
Cade Hanson has pushed his limits once again this week and improved his time in the Mounders first meet by 11 seconds. Hanson captured first place with a time of 17:14.04.
Shaving nearly a full minute off his time was fourth-place finisher, Andrew Pathos as he crossed the line in 18:00.26 and was followed by Lukas Wagner in seventh place with a time of 18:05.83.
Seth Hazen and Trae Schaefer rounded out the scoring for Elk Mound as they finished in 19th and 23rd place respectively. Hazen finished with a time of 18:50.99 and Schaefer crossed the line at 19:14.53.
Runners Ian Hazen and Walker Banaszak also competed for Elk Mound finishing in 24th and 37th place with times of 19:15.62 and 19:54.96.

Taking the top two spots in the ladies’ competition were first-place Glenwood City with 70 points and Barron was the runner-up with 120. Nel Hanson of Hayward was the ladies top individual finisher with Mya Kizer of St. Croix Central taking second.
The Lady Mounders struggled for the second meet in a row as they finished in eleventh place out of 12 teams with 235 points.
Three runners finished in the top 50 for Elk Mound which included, Kristin Martinson in 23rd place with a time of 23;57.13, Rosie Kaminski in 36th place with a time of 24:54.45, and Olivia Schreiber who crossed the line in 50th place with a time of 25:45.36.
Kyra Hadenfeldt and Taya Schaefer wrapped up the scoring runners for the Mounders as they finished the race separated by one spot. Hadenfeldt finished in 62nd place and a time of 26:33.83 and Schaefer finished in 26:45.45 for 64th place.
Elk Mound will travel to Menomonie this Saturday, September 14, and will race at UW-Barron County in Rice Lake next Tuesday, September 17.
