ST. CLOUD, MN — Colfax graduate Mallie Doucette, daughter of Colfax girls’ basketball coach Joe Doucette and his wife Tracy, wrapped up her final basketball season at St. Cloud State University leading the Huskies in points per game with 12.3.
Doucette also led the NSIC (Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) Northern Division in free throws and scored in double digits in 11 of the Huskies final 16 games.
After beginning her college career in Moorhead, MN, Doucette transferred to St. Cloud State University where she played basketball for the Huskies for the past three years.
Doucette, who played in 82 games for the Huskies, was a two-time team captain for St. Cloud State, a second-team All-NSIC (2018-19), tenth on the All-time SCSU (St. Cloud State University) three-point makes list, a three-time NSIC All-Academic team honoree all while earning a double major in Psychology and Marketing.
The 2018-19 season was hard fought for the Huskies as they finished with a 14-8 conference record and an overall mark of 19-10.
The Lady Huskies went on to win the last six of their eight hardcourt games to finish in sixth place overall in the NSIC and fourth in a very competitive North Division.
Finishing where SCSU did, the Huskies earned a first-round home playoff game in the NSIC Championships against Minnesota State-Mankato.
Since 2015, the Huskies have missed an opportunity to move on to the NSIC quarterfinals, but they were able to get some playoff revenge as they beat the Minnesota State Mavericks 80-63 and advanced to the quarterfinal’s round hosted at the Sanford Health Pentagon in Sioux Fall, South Dakota on March 2.
The Huskies extended their playoff run after beating Bemidji State by 28 points, 85-87, in the quarterfinal contest. The win marked the third time this season that the Huskies had claimed victory over the Beavers. SCSU also swept the conference games with Bemidji State on January 5 and February 22.
In a Monday, March 4 semifinal game in Sioux Falls, Minnesota-Duluth dispatched the Huskies, 68-50, and put an end to SCSU season and Doucette’s collegiate basketball career.
Doucette wrapped up a stellar 3-year stint at SCSU with 708 career points including 119 three-pointers, 149-for-175 at the free throw line (85.1 percent average), 165 rebounds, 112 assists and 60 steals.
A 2014 Colfax graduate, Doucette earned three first-team, all-conference selections, two All-Northwest and two All-State selections while playing basketball for the Vikings on four Dunn-St. Croix conference championship squads, two regional title teams and of the 2013 state runner-up team. In addition, Mallie was a three-time letter winner on Colfax’s Cross Country teams and a three-time first-team all-conference softball player and was named the D-SC softball player of the year.
Mallie will graduate in May from St. Cloud State.
