ALEXANDRIA, LA — After a great showing at state, seven of Elk Mound’s powerlifters made their way to Alexandria, Louisiana for the 2019 USA Powerlifting High School National Championships on March 28-31.
The first day of competition was devoted to the junior varsity members of the lifting team, which saw Elk Mound’s JV team finishing in third place overall.
Devin Balts finished the season strong with a third place finish in the 116-pound weight class with a 170-pound squat, 105-pound bench press and a 230-pound dead lift. Each lifter was ranked overall in a best lifter category in which Balts finished in 33rd place.
The 130-pound weight class belonged to the Mounders as Blake Burlingame and Lane Lee finished in first and third respectively.
Burlingame finished the meet with a 230-pound squat, 148-pound bench press and a 340-pound dead lift, Burlingame also finished in 20th place overall.
Lane Lee finished the first day with a 240-pound squat, 124-pound bench press and a 310-pound dead lift to earn 25th overall.
Competing on day two was Morgyn Hallum in the 114-pound weight class. She finished fourth in her weight class and took sixth place overall. Hallum finished the competition with a 215-pound squat, 95-pound bench press and a 235-pound dead lift.
Abegayle Kasper, Hannah Cynor and DeAnna Leon all competed on the third day of competition. Kasper and Cynor lifted in the 158-pound weight class and Leon in the 185-pound weight class.
Kasper finished in fifth place in the 158-pound weight class with a 225-pound squat, 130-pound bench press and a 340-pound dead lift as well as a 21st place overall finish. Cynor finished with a 215-pound squat, 120-pound bench press and a 290-pound dead lift for 36th place overall.
DeAnna Leon wrapped up the third day for Elk Mound with a 13th place finish in her weight class with a 250-pound squat, 115-pound bench press and a 300-pound dead lift and finished 53rd overall.
