ELK MOUND — The Elk Mound girls’ basketball team took a loss against the Bloomer Blackhawks last Tuesday evening, November 20 falling 40-31.
In what was a low scoring affair all around, Elk Mound scored just eight points in the first half; Bloomer netted only 13 points.
The second half of Tuesday evening’s game, proved to be more fruitful for both teams as each scored over 20 points a piece. But Elk Mound couldn’t find their way to the net enough to make up its five-point deficit in the first 18 minutes of action and was outscored by four more in the latter half.
“It was a defensive struggle. I thought our team made a lot of progress on the defensive end from our first game,” stated head coach Jordan Kongshaug.
Mounders’ center Morgan Radtke led the local’s offense with 15 points against the Blackhawks most of which came from the foul line. Radtke sank 13 of 14 from the charity shots and tallied six rebounds and two blocks.
Senior sisters Alana and Brook Plaszcz paired up for ten points, Alana Plaszcz put up a single triple on the evening and finished with seven points while Brook tallied three points and a rebound.
Hailey Blaskowski also had a triple for the Mounders and had seven rebounds and a steal and an assist.
“We struggled to hit shots, but we did a much better job of moving the ball in the second half. We will keep working to get better,” Kongshaug said.
Elk Mound, currently 1-1, traveled to St. Croix Central Monday evening, November 26, and will be in Boyceville on Thursday to open conference play against the Lady Bulldogs. Elk Mound then host rival Colfax next Tuesday, December 4.
