ELK MOUND — Morgan Radtke signed her letter of intent to play volleyball last Wednesday afternoon, November 14 during a ceremony held at the high school.
The Mounders’ star athlete will begin her journey playing for the Michigan Tech Huskies starting in the fall of 2019.
For Morgan, the passion for the game of volleyball has grown over the past four years of high school at Elk Mound where she has been named the Dunn-St. Croix conference’s player of the year for the past two seasons.
“It’s something I’ve been working toward my entire life, and I think playing at the next level will be fun,” the Elk Mound senior explained.
Mike Schiszik, Mounders’ Athletic Director, congratulated Morgan before her signing and explained she is a great example of what a student athlete should be, he said.
“She really excels in the classrooms and the volleyball court, we wish her the best of luck,” said Schiszik.
Michigan Tech offered the Mounder senior everything she was looking for in a school, Radtke said, she will begin studies in biomedical engineering in the fall of 2019.
“I was looking into biomedical engineering as one of my studies, and that is one of the schools that offers it,” she stated. “So I reached out to them and they sent a bid, so that is where I’m going.”
Michigan Tech is currently in the NCAA Division 2 tournament for volleyball, and for Morgan it is an exciting feeling to know she will be part of that program.
Morgan’s parents, Michelle and Rod Radtke, have already started saving up their vacation time in order to attend several games, Michelle explained.
“She has volleyball as a passion and it’s really great to see her fulfill her goal and go to that next step,” Michelle said.
The coach for Michigan Tech expressed interest in Morgan playing middle or right side for the Huskies, but no matter what Morgan said she is ready for whatever the future may hold for her.
