STRUM — The Elk Mound cross country team had an outstanding race at the Eleva-Strum Invitational on October 4.
The Mounder girls managed another first-place finish out of the four competing teams with a low score of 20 while the Mounder boys placed second behind Augusta with a score of 81 in last Thursday’s meet.
“We had a few runners out with injuries but the others stepped up and ran outstanding,” stated head coach Jeremiah Fredrickson.
All seven of the girls running for Elk Mound finished in the top 20 during the meet. Alana Plaszcz was on top for the girls with a third place finish with a time of 21:43.51.
Finishing in fifth place was junior harrier Kristin Martinson with a time of 21:57.56, coming in 35 seconds after Martinson was Victoria Fasbender in seventh place with a time of 22:32.33.
“Our women’s team is so deep and talented it is fun to see whose going to be the top seven,” Fredrickson said.
Brook Plaszcz and Paige Romanowski also finished with mere seconds between each other for ninth and twelfth place with times of 22:54.51 and 23:31.23.
Rounding out the runners for Elk Mound were freshmen Kyra Hadenfeldt and Amber Best with fifteenth and sixteenth place finishes with times of 24:17.19 and 24:19.22.
On the boys’ side, the top three runners for Elk Mound have been stellar runners this season explained coach Fredrickson. Taking the first place position in Strum was Cade Hanson with a time of 17:16:64.
Crossing the finish line next for the Mounders was Andrew Pathos and Seth Hazen in third and sixth place with times of 17:55.58 and 18:25.22.
Carter Sundeen finished with a time of 20:54.51 to take 38th place with teammate Avery Lauer finishing a second later in 39th place with a time of 20:56.34.
Coming in 40th and 42nd place for Elk Mound were junior Brady Hunsnucker and sophomore Mitchell Ruppelt with times of 20:58.95 and 21:40.53.
“We’re looking forward to having everyone healthy and ready to run next week at Conference,” stated Fredrickson, “the assistants and team leaders did a great job of preparing our team in my absence … so great coming back and watching them perform.”
The Elk Mound teams will finish out their regular season competing in the Dunn-St. Croix conference championship meet this Thursday, October 11 at the Tiffany Creek Elementary course in Boyceville. Racing will get underway at 4:30 p.m. The Mounder, who moved up to Division 2 for the WIAA tournament that will held in Colby for the Sectional meet on Saturday, October 20.
