Mounders’ cross country teams finish 5th at Altoona Invitational

ALTOONA — Elk Mound traveled to the City Wells in Eau Claire this past Saturday, September 15 to partake in the Altoona Cross Country Invitational.

The Mounder boys finished fifth out of 15 schools with a score of 159 points and the girls also came in fifth place out of nine schools with 106 points.

The Durand boys and girls both took the team titles. The Panther boys’ finished first with 48 points while the Lady Cats copped the crown with 37 points.

Crossing the line first for the Mounder boys was junior runner Andrew Pathos with a time of 18:33.8 to take tenth place.

Seth Hazen and Lukas Wagner finished in 25th and 31st for the Elk Mound team with times of 19:09.4 and 19:27.6.

Separated by point four of a second was runners Carter Sundeen who took 58th place with a time of 20:53.6 and Brady Hunsnucker crossing with a time of 20:54.0 for 59th place.

The Mounder girls managed to finish their race with three of their seven runners finishing in the top thirty.

Kristin Martinson and Brook Plaszcz finished back to back in 23rd and 24th place with times of 24:06.7 and 24:07.4.

Finishing eleven seconds later was runner Danielle Olson in 28th place with a time of 24:18.3, while Victoria Fasbender would finish just seconds after Olson in 31st place with a time of 24:32.6.

Senior Paige Romanowski crossed the line in 35th place with a time of 25:03.0.

Bringing up the rear for the Mounders were Alana Plaszcz and Taya Schaefer finishing in 40th and 41st place with times of 25:26.9 and 25:29.6.

Elk Mound traveled to Mondovi on September 18 before heading to Durand for a meet at 4:30 p.m. on September 20.
