The Mayor and Council keep saying they don’t want to close our one hundred year old city library. Since we are all told that actions speak louder than words, let’s look at the way this Mayor and Council have been budgeting city dollars over the last four years.
In 2010 General Government was budgeted for $206,013 and four years later it was up to $232,073. Public safety went from $220,545 in 2010 to $263,049 four years later. Transportation facilities followed the same path $160,631 in 2010 up to $199,532. Culture and Recreation went from $46,605, in 2010 to $70,326.
You get the picture. But then we look at Library Funding over that same time period and what do we find; $81,261 in 2010 down to $25,000 in 2014.
Actions speak louder than words. Glenwood City’s Public Library, a library that survived the days of farmers making their living behind a horse with a single bottom plow and the depths of the great depression, looks like it won’t survive the actions of this Mayor and Council, not their words.
