When the Colfax volleyball team played host to the Spring Valley Cardinals  in the final conference game of the season last Tuesday night, both teams along with plenty of fans for both sides, knew there would be a conference champion crowned before the evening was over.

After being inducted into the UW-Eau Claire Athletic Hall of Fame a year ago, 1954 Colfax graduate and football standout Russ Knutson presented his plaque from the university to Colfax High School during halftime of the Homecoming game Oct. 11.

COLFAX — The Colfax football team knew they were facing an uphill battle when they hosted the Mondovi Buffaloes for their Homecoming game last Friday night.

EAU CLAIRE — Racing against teams from all three divisions from the area, the Colfax girls finished seventh among 16 teams at the Old Abe Invitational held at South Middle School in Eau Claire Oct. 12 while the boys were 11th out of 15 teams.

After losing matches against Chippewa Falls and Immanuel Lutheran to start the day at the Altoona Volleyball Tournament, the Colfax girls moved in to bracket play and defeated Somerset 25-17, 25-19, then defeated Durand 25-14 and 25-17 to place seventh in the Bronze Division. The Vikings were seventh overall in the tournament.

SOMERSET — In just the first year of Colfax having a girls’ golf team, Whitney DeMoe set the standards pretty high for future players as she became the first girl from Colfax to qualify for the WIAA state meet held in Madison Oct. 14-15.
