Colfax golf team competes at regional meet, Whitney DeMoe moves on to sectional

CUMBERLAND — The three members of the Colfax girls’ golf team teed off against tough competition at the WIAA Regional meet held at the Cumberland Golf Course Oct. 2. The top four teams (you must have five golfers to compete as a team) moved on to sectional play as well as the top four individuals not on one of those teams. The meet will take place Oct. 8 at Bristol Ridge Golf Course in Somerset.

After playing three years on the boys’ team and qualifying for sectionals those years, the Vikings’ Whitney DeMoe shot a round of 90 and finished third but was the top individual to qualify for the sectional meet in a field of 38. And just to show how important every stroke is, Hannah DeMoe shot a round of 103 for 18th place, leaving her one stroke away from advancing to the sectional with her sister. Allie Yingst had her best performance of the season with a round of 110, good for 28th place. A pair of players from Northwestern took the top two spots with scores of 86 and 88 which also produced a team win for them.

“Whitney worked very hard for this all season,” Colfax coach Kim Myers said. “She set sectional play as her goal this year and she achieved it through her hard work and dedication to the sport. She deserves this spot.”
