Menomonie Optimists honor two area youth

The Menomonie Optimist Club honored Kamri Rothbauer of Elk Mound High School and David Paulson of Colfax High School as the March Youth of the Month. Youth of the Month are high achieving students of character nominated by their high schools for this honor.
Kamri Rothbauer, daughter of Scott and Nicole Rothbauer is the valedictorian of her senior class at Elk Mound High School. She has been active throughout her four years in numerous groups and is a member of the National Honor Society. She has been a team member of the girls basketball and volleyball squads. Kamri has consistently held jobs while in high school, including at her parents’ restaurant. Teachers describe her as hard-working, kind-hearted, compassionate, dependable and humble. Kamri loves the outdoors and is a hunter. She has been accepted and will attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison, with a probable major in the sciences.
David Paulson, son of Troy and Becky Paulson, is valedictorian of his class at Colfax High School. David has taken a number of college courses during high school, where he has also been a member of the National Honor Society, yearbook staff, Future Farmers of America, where he served as chapter secretary. David has been a member of the Drama Club which has led to important roles in school musicals, including the lead in the musical Big Fish.
David plans to attend UW-Stout after high school where he will double major in Plastics Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.
Menomonie Optimists have honored outstanding students from all four of Dunn County’s high schools for over 30 years. Optimists have also adopted Hoffman Hills State Recreation Area where they conduct work projects involving local school students, including the restoration of an oak savanna. Each August, the Club sponsors the Menomin Meander, a family-friendly and free bike ride around Menomonie’s Lake Menomin Loop.
